At a station orbiting a lightless star, hours equal millennia. An autonomous collective sends chrononauts into pivotal centuries before empire consolidates its power. The crews carry knowledge that could alter a civilization’s future, under rules that make every intervention difficult.

A chrononaut must spend years inside the culture the mission enters. Future knowledge stays locked until local people articulate the need. There is one edit per cultural basin per millennium, with no iterative resets. The crew has to live with uncertainty while learning what the community can build on its own terms.

The opening mission imagines Mesoamerican engineers finding means to defend their shores before conquest arrives. An embedded chrononaut works as a tlacuilo apprentice. The mission’s power depends on the people whose world it enters, and the tools brought to it must dissolve when their work is complete.

The planned saga braids an embedded chrononaut, a historical actor, and a later-era scholar. Cultural immersion and real scholarship give each mission its particular stakes. Readers are invited into histories whose possibilities remain open, with crews required to answer for the extraordinary power they carry.

Inside the series
  • Chronomissions built around cultural immersion and consequential limits
  • Historical possibilities grounded in civilizations and their intellectual lineages
  • Three perspectives with different knowledge and stakes in an intervention
  • The pressure of altering a future whose inhabitants must retain authority over it
